'WILD' CLASS INTO NATURE.

Outdoor Teaching/classes. Teaching through adventure and carrying out activities in a natural environment.

COURSE INFORMATION

Welcome to an atypical course based on outdoor practice and learning. Each day involves a different activity adding knowledge in different environments (parks, mountains, beach and sea). Creating an adventure within the training. At the end, the participant will have obtained the knowledge and resources to promote their return center.

This course is based on personal work, teamwork, awareness and learning of a healthy lifestyle and learning about the sustainability and biodiversity of the area. To optimise learning, it is recommended that the participant be in physical condition that can carry out independently to hike and swim. An outdoor course in nature, it is a live course (the schedule may change due to the weather of the place)

 

The main activities are divided into 3 blocks:

 

1.- Workshops to improve individual skills: autonomy in the natural environment, fear management and first aid and safety and healthy resources

 

2.- Group activities: Mountain/sea orienteering (natural elements, maps with compass and new technologies), leadership and communication, cooperative work, improving physical skills, through hiking, sport climbing, lifeguarding and paddle sup* board crossing (Alicante, Malaga and Tenerife, Spain), hot spring & wild nature  (Reykjavik, Iceland)

 

3.- Environmental activities: knowledge of the biodiversity of the environment (fun practices for all students), sustainability in natural environments.

WILD CLASES INTO THE NATURE course is aimed for teachers and school staff from pre-school level to primary, secondary, vocational, adult and special needs education, staff of non-government organizations, government and policy makers and company staff. Non-native English trainers expecting participants to have at least B1 level of English proficiency.

METHODOLOGY

The methodology of this course is focused on 15% practical theory and 85% implementation, where the participant will be able to put into practice and reinforce what they have learned through practical cases (mountain or sea activities).

The method used ranges from group work to individual work. Dynamic group practices encourage cooperation, communication and leadership, group support and healthy patterns. The individual part promotes autonomy and personal skills (observation of the world, self-improvement, resistance and inner strength). All of this in a natural environment that enhances the adherence what has been learned.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In addition, participants will work and receive a huge amount of documents to improve their knowledge in the different areas integrated in the course. At the end of the course, the company will provide the participants an attendance certificate including the detailed information about the course, e.g. title, programme and schedule. In addition, a Europass Mobility Certificate can be added on request.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

Our outdoor teaching course begins with the development of activities forgotten in a hyper-technological world. Learning from our environment and putting it into practice, the specific objectives of the course are:

 

  • To bring the natural environment closer to the classroom through games and physical activities and didactic activities.

  • To enjoy the mountains and the sea through educational activities for children, teenagers and adults.

  • To through practices and workshops we will deepen safety and first aid in the mountains and at sea.

  • Tools will be acquired to improve the autonomy of the participant in a natural environment and at the same time also teamwork.

  • To improve rapid and autonomous response capacity

  • To be able to transfer Wild class benefits to any subject (biology, music, physical education…)

  • To create the union between culture, health and well-being.

  • To have a more efficient and healthy vision applicable to the classroom, to sports…

  • To learn fear management techniques

  • To get acquainted with the key elements and growing trends related to outdoor education and teaching outside the classroom.

  • To lean how to use outdoor education for personal, social and relational development (e.g. self-confidence, team building, leadership…)

  • To acquire knowledge to improve memory on a physical and mental level.

  • To learn how to design, plan and deliver inspirational outdoor education activities.

  • To strengthen European collaboration among –past, present and future– participants.

 

Thanks to this course the participants will:

  • Read topographic maps, use the compass, calculate coordinates and directions.

  • Learn through the enjoyment of discovering new methods and tools.

  • Discover new techniques and healthy teaching methods.

  • Discover areas of great cultural interest in the country.

  • Learn about the flora and fauna of the area.

  • Tie knots to transport, climb and be in a natural environment.

  • Make contacts with new partners interested in developing European Projects through specific networking activities.

 

At the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

-Create dynamic practices that interact into the nature implement them outside and inside the classroom.

- Encourage students to engage outdoor activities.

- Bring nature closer to the classroom through innovative ways.

DAILY PROGRAMME

The primary objective of this training is to offer natural activities that promote greater learning about the natural environment, that is, that support environmental care, of great value and biodiversity. Therefore, this course will have variations depending on the chosen city. Natural resources favour greater learning about the natural environment, that is, they support environmental care, of great value and with biodiversity.

 

The manager of the company usually welcomes participants on Sunday afternoon and gives them all the information about courses and Erasmus week. The main training activities, instruction and practices will take place from Monday to Friday. Moreover, participants will be able to explain their own school and Erasmus project to the rest of participants in the middle of the week and, after that, work all together to set up future eTwinnings or even Job Shadowing. On another note, participants will be involved in cultural activities held by the company during afternoon time. Finally, there will be a course’ roundup and a final evaluation on Friday or Saturday morning, depending on the participants’ departure time, and the delivery of the certificates of attendance. Here you have below the standard indicative daily programme of the course, knowing that the course will have variations depending on the chosen city.

 

DAY 1 – SUNDAY. LET’S MEET US!

- Meeting and greeting.

- Individual orientation and information about the venue and the city.

- Introduction and brief information about the local culture

- Round up presentation and networking between all participants.

 

DAY 2 – MONDAY. WATER ADVENTURE I // Overboard! 

  • Introduction to aquatic activities at sea

  • Discovering the maritime ecosystem.

  • Workshop: Apnea (Freediving) and aquatic rescue.

  • Aquatic gymkhana (marine fun)

  • Adaptation to the target audience

 

DAY 3 – TUESDAY. KNOTS, SPORTS CLIMBING AND SAFETY

  • Workshop: Useful tools and knots.

  • Workshop: Safety and fear management in the mountains.

  • Introduction to sport climbing.

  • Sustainability and care of the environment.

 

DAY 4 – WEDNESDAY. Theory, maps, security…

  • Welcome and presentation of the course

  • Networking

  • Terrain recognition (analog maps vs apps, navigation with map and compass)

  • Safety in practice.

  • Creating an adventure race.

  • Physical training. (Outdoor training).

 

DAY 5 – THURSDAY. TEACHING OUTDOOR.

COST AND ERASMUS + FUNDING

The cost of the seven day course is 560€ and includes course fees, healthy breakfast almost every day, outdoor sessions, free cultural activities in the city during the week and certification of attendance. The company offers an Optional cultural package to deepen the relationship between all participants.

 

The training course is tailored to be fully funded by Erasmus + to teachers, trainers, headmasters and any other staff of education organizations. Furthermore trainers can help in Key Action 1 Application to ensure that participants can get the grant and could be eligible to receive an Erasmus + grant that covers all the costs of the course.
